The History of Amway's Business Success
In 1994, the first AMWAY Merchandising Centre was set up at Castle Hill, which enabled local IBOs to view and experience the products and make over-the-counter purchases.
In 1995 Dick DeVos was appointed President of the AMWAY Corporation and Steve Van Andel became Chairman, as the sons took over officially from founders Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel.
In April 1996 AMWAY celebrated 25 years of success in Australia. Steve Van Andel made his first trip to Australia as Chairman of the Board to help celebrate the auspicious occasion. In that same year, the Australian affiliate launched E.L.V.I.S. (Electronic Link Via-Internet Services), a new Internet business tool for IBOs.
In 1999 AMWAY Corporation, USA celebrated its 40th year and AMWAY of Australia established a joint venture partnership with AFS Financial Services, providing a range of insurance and finance products to AMWAY IBOs and customers, increasing again the opportunity for IBOs to earn ongoing income.
Always at the cutting edge of technological efficiency, in April 2000, the AMWAY Online website (E.L.V.I.S.’s big brother) launched. AMWAY also launched a joint venture mortgage home loan program through subsidiary company, XPLORE™ Capital Ltd
Amway’s first regional call centre opened in Auckland in 2001, catering to the needs of IBOs in both Australia and New Zealand. That year, XPLORE Capital went public, offering share participation to IBOs.
October 2003 saw AMWAY of Australia become the exclusive distributor and marketer of EMMA PAGE® high quality fashion jewellery, that had been sold in Australia via the party plan method for over 33 years.
In 2004 AMWAY’s Castle Hill Merchandising Centre was enhanced and launched as the first multi-faceted Amway Business Centre in the region. In a worldwide first for AMWAY, IBOs and clients could also have their health assessed and treated by NUTRIWAY®’s resident naturopaths.
TEAM NUTRIWAY T-shirts (all 1,300 of them!) were an amazing sight among the thousands who turned out for Sydney's 2005 City2Surf. TEAM NUTRIWAY was the largest group in the 35-year history of the City2Surf to enter the 14km mini marathon.
Dr. Sam Rehnborg, President of the Nutrilite Health Institute and Jim Payne, Execuitve Vice President and Managing Director of AMWAY International lead the pack of pumped up TEAM NUTRIWAY members over the start line and ensured all members made it right to the finish at Bondi Beach.
In 2008, Amway opened a new Business Centre in Brisbane. This Centre offer an enhanced business-building environment to IBOs and create a physical presence for their customers. They use state-of-the-art technology and services including beauty and naturopathic consultations, offices, function rooms and high-tech shopping environments with self-serve information kiosks so visitors can access more in-depth looks at the brands and ranges available.
In 2009, a new Business Centre was opened in Perth.
In 2010 Amway embarked on national newspaper advertising to improve the community’s understanding of Amway. More than 1 million learn more about Amway every month.
With 50% of people joining Amway now under 30, Amway has a bright future. That future involves social media, which Amway has embraced.

In 2011, Amway celebrates its 40th Birthday in Australia.
