The History of Amway Australia's products
By 1981, AMWAY’s global turnover had risen to $A1.4 billion, thanks in no small way to Australia, where AMWAY offered the most comprehensive range of products in the direct selling industry including ARTISTRY® skincare and cosmetics, Nutriway(R) Health and Wellness products, Personal Care, Cookware, Jewellery and Homecare.
In 1984, the same year that Rich DeVos toured Australia to celebrate the American parent’s 25th Anniversary, ARTISTRY was supported by extensive magazine advertising featuring Australian television personality Rowena Wallace.
In 1985 AMWAY announced sponsorship of the Australian Defence of the America’s Cup in Fremantle and through the Defence Club, engaged IBOs in various activities in support of that major corporate affairs initiative. (KL: Were we the sponsor – it doesn’t matter when we announced it)
In 1987, IBOs enjoyed their first overseas Australian Leadership Seminar in Singapore.
In 1989 AMWAY was awarded the United Nations Environmental Programme Award for Excellence.
Ten years after opening its new warehouse and office space, it was obvious AMWAY needed to expand. Architect Phillip Cox was commissioned to design additions to the National Headquarters at Castle Hill and this facility opened in 1991.
The $12 million complex included 24,000 square metres of warehouse and office space.
In 1993 AMWAY was awarded the United Earth Corporate Commendation. New ARTISTRY skincare and cosmetics were launched. AMWAY Asia Pacific was floated on the New York and Australian Stock Exchanges. This major initiative was to facilitate AMWAY’s expansion into the Chinese market and to offer AMWAY distributors a long-awaited opportunity to participate as shareholders in the AMWAY business.
